This is another of my paintings that began with the canvas being folded and dyed. In this particular work, I used the origami bird base, but offset the center of the pattern which created more of a random framework for the painting's structure. The cotton canvas was then scoured and dyed using Procion fiber reactive dyes. I then stretched and sealed the canvas. I also transferred some images from some Independence Day display advertisements that I had made back when I was working as a graphic designer at a local newspaper. I used the Americana theme because I wanted to reflect the cherry blossom as a symbol of a gift from another country to the United States. At the time that I painted this, it was becoming more evident that maybe relations with other countries weren't faring so well, and I wanted to remind myself of something positive in terns of U.S. relations.
