I treat art history like a pantheon of ancestors or household gods, each presiding over a minor shift in expression. And I can never say what each corresponds to at any given time because I use them as needed. And often, they appear before I ask them to, by inclination, such as suddenly Googling "Melancholy" images. It was strange what happened today, how time dilated as layer upon layer arrived to recontextualize this disgruntled creature.
The collage is otherwise synthesized from my own imagery with direct reference to Dürer's "Melancholy".
