My name is Pete Snyder. I am presently 23 years old and working to develop an art centered life.
Creating in some manner has always been a passion of mine. It is a winding uncertain path that leads me to a sense of balance. While much of my life feels like a scrambled flip book, when I start to paint or draw I feel merged with something that makes sense to me.
Currently I am working towards an MFA in painting with the intent to devour the knowledge and experience of an art concentrated atmosphere and to acquire the degree required for teaching at a College or University.
Living an art-centric life is the most fulfilling thing that I can imagine. It's like being five years old for the rest of your life, impulsively turning over stones and lifting fallen tree branches to discover seemingly infinite potential discoveries.
My methods
I am driven by process, seeking to retain an intuitive connection to the materials used and surfaces to which they are applied. A sort of monistic interaction takes place between the materials and the mind.
I have learned that I am rarely content with a single category of imagery or materials. The experience of creating is enhanced by constantly working between contrasting things (soft-hard, wet-dry, two dimensional-sculptural, physical-conceptual, ...)
I am most often drawn to work with simple formless lines and textures, but recently I have developed a fascination with sound and spectrograms and the work is beginning to develop layers and complexity that I am usually uncomfortable with.
My methods
