The outrider slows the winner after a race. An older piece from 1993 showing my more realistic style of painting. This was one of my favorite places to hang out at Bay Meadows for photos, before barns were built in the infield. The gap leading to the backside is just beyond the horses here. I call this "Winter Solstice," because that's the time of year I took this photo, just a few days before Christmas, on a day when the shadows were very long.
