Avebury is among my favorite places in England. The day that I visited Avebury for the photo that inspired this painting, the sky was blustery but the clouds seemed to have more colors than I'm used to. It was a beautiful day, and the sun eventually emerged. We ate lunch leaning against one of the stones. This painting captures the mystery and beauty of Avebury, as well as its sense of profound peace. I painted it in oils over a vivid acrylic underpainting. The scan of this painting doesn't accurately represent the simplicity and depth of this work.
