Born and raised in Coffeyville, Kansas. Barton moved with her husband and children to the close knit community of Humboldt in 1989, which is now 'home'. She earned a B.S.E.D. in Art Education and a Masters Degree from Pittsburg State University. Although trained with an emphasis in Postmodern Abstract Expressionism, she repeatedly finds herself returning to a more traditional representational approach.
Over the years she has won numerous awards at regional, national and international levels. She is also an adjunct art instructor at community colleges in the area.
Her latest passion is mixed media. She is exploring the interactive possibilities of Altered Books. She hopes to have images up soon on EBSQ, but they currently can be seen on her studios website http://www.bartonstudio.com
