A koru is a Maori design based on the fern frond, or pitau (pronounced pi-tah-oo). It is often seen in Maori art and is widely used in logo design in New Zealand.
The circular shape of a fern frond conveys the notion of perpetual movement, with the coil inside suggesting a return to the point of origin. It is indicative of how life both changes and stays the same.
This example was caught with my Canon T-70 on a walk in the woods near Dunedin, New Zealand. I used my Kiron macrolens to get up close and personal.
