by: Amie Gillingham

How long have you been creating?

My Mother and Father encouraged me to draw since I was a child. My Father is a artist and I have many memories of sitting next to him creating at the same time he was.

What's your medium of choice?

Acrylic paint mixed with heavy gloss gel

What besides your art brings you creative fulfillment?

Conversation with people, the performing of a physical chores.

What are your motivations for creating?

I have a deep sense of running out of time. I've only recently started painting again after taking a hitaus of 13 years. From that buildup of time I have a huge amount of ideas and desire to create them in a physical form.

What other artists or movements inform your work?

Yukito Kishiro, Picasso, Hazel Dooney, Van Gogh

How do you know when a piece you're working on is done?

I more than likely could work on any given piece for the rest of my life. I have to choose a time to stop.Usually that is when I see a certain consistency in brush strokes across the entire piece that I feel flow well.

What do you find stimulating right now? How does this influence your creative process?

I have great interest in the study of Quantum Physics and role it might play in our consiousness. It stimulates my imagination and allows my observation to collapse the possibilities that lie on the canvas. Music plays a important role when I paint, it allows me to focus and put aside all that goes on outside my direct field of view.

What brought you to EBSQ?

I had came to a point when I was ready to show my work to others and in a search on how to market myself online, your site revealed itself to me!

To continue painting vividly colored portraits while experimenting with abstraction and possibly some different subject matter. I would also like to try using watercolor paints and draw a bit more.

What would you like your fellow EBSQ artists and our collectors to know about you and/or your work?

My passion is in the process as much as viewing a finished piece. The final painting is a reflection of the story of that process.
