My name is PJ Gorman. Some of the places I have called home include Washington DC, St. Louis, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and most recently Perry County Pennsylvania, one of the last places on the east coast without a traffic light.

I am an abstract artist whose influences include the entire decade of the 1970's. Blasts of color right to the brain and streaming images of pop culture coming through the television set. Cartoons are still my favorite entertainment. My work has been characterized by some as psychedelic or shamanistic. Its a product of the overstimulus in my own head and my environment. Trying to make sense of the chaotic world, at the very least make peace with it. I think Kenny Scharf calls it surrealistic pop, so maybe that will do for now as I'd rather create it than name it.

Over the last 15 years I've created a vast body of work, a sampling is availabe in my EBSQ profile as well as my personal website. My work has traveled more of the planet than I could ever imagine doing on my own. I've followed the simple principle of following your bliss. Do what you love and you'll find your place in the universe. Sounds like hippie babble? Well,it's certainly not the kind of business plan they teach you in school, but many of life's lessons aren't learned in the class room . I'm still waiting to see how this experiment in positive thinking turns out.

Ok , for the text books, here is my "Artist Statement".

Modern man dealing with his primitive feelings in a futuristic world of technology. The asymmetry is important in my work to retain an organic feeling and reflects a struggle for unattainable perfection in life. I am evoking mythological and shamanistic themes, representing powers outside the realm of ordinary experience. My influence draws upon the art of tribal cultures it is from that point of view I approach art.
