Media:  wool felt
Dimensions:  about 9 inches
Date of Work:  February, 2005

In the middle ages, people thought that the more time you spent thinking about death in this world, the less time you would have to spend in purgatory in the next. This little Capuchin monk mummy was inspired by a program I saw the other day about catacombs and mummies of religious orders (mostly Catholic) whose members bodies were preserved and displayed in highly artistic fashion. He's about nine inches tall, made from embroidered and appliqued wool felt, all hand-sewn, hand-made, one of a kind, original. His little wooden cross is made from toothpicks cut and stained dark amber, and gold perle cotton thread. His 'rope' belt is mohair.
