This is a very functional jewelry box I did when I was studying metalsmithing. The box opens up to reveal a pin that can be taken out and worn along with the matching smile earrings on the back. Boxes like this were designed to display the jewelry when it was not being worn. If you've ever noticed, the person who wears jewelry is the only one who doesn't get to view their own possession, so an elaborate display case is designed so the owner can admire their own purchase when it is not being worn. This was done in a funky, crazy design, inspired by such movies like "Beatlejuice" where crazy art makes sense.
