This painting took me exactly two years to finish! It started out as an abstract painting in Los Angeles. I had planned to do a painting with a subtle wash of colours and then a pattern over it in black. But the colours turned out wrong, too dark and defined. The painting sat in my studio, waiting to be painted over. I decided I liked the background as a frame so I painted a white rectangle in the middle of the canvas, and left the old painting surrounding it. I moved to another country, taking the painting with me. A few months ago, I started thinking of doing some more florals, and sketched a sunflower design. Then it sat around while I moved across town. Finally I got inspired and painted some sunflowers in a clear glass vase.
