"The subjects I paint are varied. A book laid open on it's pages on a table in a bright sunshine. A small child gazing off into the distance over a fence rail, or pausing to pick a lone flower in an open field. Two people sitting on a stark wooden bench. What strikes my eye are portraits that kindle my imagination. If someone were looking at this scene what would they make of it, what would they read into it? How would they finish the story? There are just so many possibilities. It seems to me that the best part of a painting might just be the part you can't see. The blanks that your own mind wants to fill in. Nothing at all wrong with a painting that is simply beautiful, I sure hope you think that some of mine are. But a picture that makes you think; that makes you want to finish painting the scene with the brush and paint of your own imagination. Well, that to me is something even better."
