I am an artist who works primarily with photography. I’ve worked in other mediums also — drawing, painting, sculpting — and while I’ve enjoyed them, photography is the one thing that I keep coming back to. It is a very versatile medium that can portray reality in any way you want. Straightforward or subtle. Sharp or hazy. Ordinary or surreal.
My work begins by observing my surroundings. I try to have a camera with me whenever I go out. Inspiration is always finding me when I least expect it, so it’s best to be prepared. I do use a digital camera occasionally, but for my artistic work I only use film. I love being surprised when I see my prints for the first time. Sometimes an image turns out quite differently than I’d expected. Whether it turns out better or worse, I always learn from it. One of my favorite things about photography is that there is always more to learn. This is what keeps me moving forward as an artist.
