“Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.” Karen Ravn To create this piece, I painted the canvas in a block background, masked out a border and then applied impasto acrylic with my favourite tool - the palette knife. I mixed colours typical of the Australian bush and used the knife to smear and skip the paint across the canvas to give the piece a finish similar to the bark of a tree. I then used the knife to sculpt the moth resting in the centre, so that it stands slightly in relief against the bark, giving this painting a lifelike feel.
