“The artist is a servant who is willing to be a birth-giver.” Madeleine L’Engle, Walking on Water

I’ve been drawn to making art ever since I can remember, the earliest memory being the time I used my bedroom walls as my canvas when I was in kindergarten. That didn’t go over too well with my parents who made me erase every mark (thankfully I used pencil!). But don’t misunderstand; I’ve been blessed to be raised in a home that respects and encourages artistic endeavour. My parents invested a considerable amount of money to pay for art supplies while I attended St. Mary’s Catholic High School (Dubai, UAE), where by Senior 3 (equivalent Grade 9) I had to choose between French and Art. Art inevitably won out; I went on to study it for three more years and eventually received my post-secondary GCE Certificate (‘A’ Level) in Fine Art.

At 17 I moved to beautiful British Columbia, Canada where I was accepted into the Fine Arts program at SFU. The artistic culture shock and lack of personal worldview frustrated me enough to switch majors and I ended up graduating with a Communications degree. After 10 years and with no regrets I am back to making art regularly, feeling grounded and confident in the faith, identity and worldview that inspire me.

Although my training was in more "realistic" art I find myself drawn to abstract work especially with regard to self-expression. My medium of choice is acrylics. I love to experiment with texture, paper, the flow of paint and various combinations of paint with painting mediums. Some of my inspirations include Madeleine L’Engle, Vincent Van Gogh, Jazz greats (such as John Coltrane, Ella Fitzgerald, Wes Montgomery, Thelonious Monk), King David of Israel and the Creator God Himself.
