I refer to my style as "Expressionistic Impressionism." I define my subject with color, usually as vivid as possible.
During my independent study in college I became intrigued by works using equal value colors. Specifically one's eye cannot focus upon either color when placed side by side. The resulting effect creates a vibration or the illusion of movement in the painting.
I prefer to work in acrylic paints which allow fast drying times. Also I generally look for an immediate "feel" from the subject once I've started a painting. If that feel or vibe isn't found quickly I usually start over rather than overwork the piece. Rather then mixing colors on the pallete I look for interesting color relationships on the canvas. The outcome is very bold and sometimes quite primitive.
