These two Dallas, Texas police horses were facing each other, looking at me. Ready to be tacked out for the day's work, they wait patiently against this bright blue wall at the State Fair grounds. The rings on the wall are very old and are ties for cattle stock.
Trojan, the gray and Zeus, the chestnut in the foreground are both beautiful police horses. Trojan is a gift to the police department. He is an Arabian-Belgian sport horse, a mere three-year-old and is dressage trained. He is currently in police training and since the average police horse is retired well into their twenties, Trojan has a long career ahead of him. Trojan is unusual since the police normally only accept solid-colored horses, primarily bays and blacks, into their ranks.
Zeus is a gorgeous Belgian-Quarter Horse cross, ten years old and no police rookie. He has a beautiful arched neck with a roached mane and an enormous flowing flaxen tail. Notice the little white spot just to the right of his tail. He has a bushy forelock of blonde hair between his eyes and the police call him the "California Dude".
This is an original oil on gallery-wrapped canvas, it is stretched and the sides are painted. I've signed and dated it in the bottom right-hand side and signed and dated the back.
This piece was on display at the Dallas Police Mounted Unit Barn Detail Room. It is currently for sale. Please make all offers to McClayArt@yahoo.com. Thank you.
