It has taken me a long time to get here, the place that I can say with great joy, that I am an artist. As Janice Elasheimer states in ‘The Creative Call', "As we begin calling ourselves artist, owning the title. . .not merely thinking of ourselves as people who do that . . . as a hobby, we will find that all of life offers us the stimulus to create."

I have discovered the stimulus to create in pondering. Life is full of wonderful stuff. Look around you, and take some time to notice the small beauty everywhere. My paintings represent moments in time, snippets of life and ponderings. All of my paintings are about my expression of worship to my creator. The highest form of worship is to use the talents God has given us, with passion. I want to use my gifts to give love letters to Jesus. I imagine them like the precious drawings my children and now grandchildren gave me to hang on my refrigerator.

I enjoy painting with watercolor, the fluidity is amazing. Most of my paintings are in watercolor, some on watercolor paper and others on watercolor canvas. Watercolor canvas has opened a new world of painting to me. I am painting like a watercolorist, but now can touch the canvas! This seems small, but after being so careful not to put fingerprints on watercolor paper, it is huge to be able to touch a finished painting's surface. Much is the same, whites continue to be the canvas like paper, but now it is far easier to lift paint off the surface. I love the play of light and shadow in chiaroscuro. Lights and darks and intense color are increased using watercolor canvas. If you are a watercolor artist, I highly recommend trying it, you'll have a blast!

I have been painting for over thirty years. I finally graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a BA in Art and also Secondary Ed in 2001. During that time I was very lucky to do student teaching at Lane Tech College Prep in Chicago. Then I taught art for four years at Lane. That was a wonderful experience, I met many very interesting people (teachers and students). In 2004 my husband retired from Chicago Public Schools. In 2005 I took the plunge to do art as a full time job. Everyday I say THANK YOU GOD for such an opportunity. We are living part time in a little Mississippi river town in Iowa and part time in Chicago. I am currently being represented by Off The Wall Gallery in Bellevue, Iowa.
