I was inspired to create this piece when I saw the stunning lampwork glass beads by Aimee Milan of Polychrome Beads - I lost both grandmothers to breast cancer and my cousin Tonia is currently undergoing yet another round of treatments, some experimental, to fight metastatic breast cancer that has insinuated itself into her bones. After two radical mastectomies, five remissions and treatments still in clinical trials she has remained positive and serene, much like the lotus, which appears to float on the surface but is, in fact, anchored beneath.
