George and Gracie are two goldfish I have living in my water garden. This painting is of George with his beautiful fantail spreading out trying to attract Gracie.

The lily is fully opened and float in the afternoon sun.

The fish is almost completely orange-gold with shining flecks of yellow-gold tapering off to white at the tips of his beautiful tails. Palette knife and scrumbling techniques are used to enhance the texture of the scales.

This painting is part of a series, The Water Garden, which highlights flowers, fish, and other creatures that come to the water garden in my back yard.
