The spirit of Seurat has been embedded in me since I was very young. I can recall being a small child and seeing 'La Grande Jatte' staring back at me at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The interesting thing for me is that I really have no proof that this vision ever really happened. Maybe it was all just a childhood dream. Either way, when I am working on my paintings, the colorful dots that spring off of my brush and leap onto the canvas help me continue a love of pointillism that I have had for many years. Although true pointillism is based on your eye 'blending' the colors, my vision is also influenced by mosaics of the Byzantine era, as well as the colorful palette of Van Gogh. I build my paintings upon a coating of gesso that has been layered on with a palette knife to give a slight look of 'veining' underneath the layers of dots. When people look at my art, I hope they can feel the same energy and vibrancy that I felt during the execution of the piece. With pointillism, I feel that there are many possibilities that have yet to be explored and I am eager to take on the challenge of all of them...
