WHO THE HECK AM I ANYWAY?

size: 5' x 7" [medium: skin and bones with lots of soul] created 1968
That's me up there on the right, in my family's version of a family portrait. To understand me you must see the people I live with, and well, yes, they are cartoon characters. I am a mother (of two amazing and colorful) children, a wife of a very patient man (sadly, he is just a head),a WOMAN, a work of God's art and hopefully some day a hero. I fell in love with a man who lets me use one garage and two rooms of our home as my own personal studio space (see why he is so patient?). I went to Memphis College of Art and studied advertising and design. LATER, as an art director at an ad agency, I designed some of the TCBY packaging and signage you may have thrown carelessly into the trash! I got married, made babies and got the heck out of the "working world". I had never really studied painting or pottery in school but was introduced to it by talented friends and fell in love once more. My personal motto: I AM WOMAN, THIS BODY LAMPOON ART.
WHAT ABOUT MY ART?
Back to the point. There are many things that I find fascinating and many more that I find both fascinating and irresistable. I am attracted to the whimsy, humor, emotion, history, and color of everything I see. I am affected by these things as well (probably why Wal-Marts give me a migraine) When I see an old photo or a quirky piece of pottery, I see a personality. I see an emotion. I see a potential. I see a story.
THAT is what I try to express in my art.
