Deb is a folk artist who enjoys creating small enameled pieces. Deb's studio is nestled in a longleaf pine forest in coastal North Carolina, very near the InterCoastal Waterway. Her first formal training in the art of enameling was in December 2004 during a week-long course at the John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, North Carolina. In October 2007 she completed a course on texture on metal at the Folk School. Her instructor Steve Artz was knowledgeable, disciplined and imaginative...a terrific instructor.
Deb's works are of the naive sort and include whimsical, colorful representations indicative of her imaginative approach to enameling. Deb is always on the lookout for designs, patterns and subject matter to complement enameling on copper. Deb purchases her enameling supplies from Thompson Enamel in Bellevue, Kentucky. Although she used to purchase scrap copper from a local salvage metal business, this is no longer possible since the company sends all their salvage copper to China! Competition for scarce resources.
Deb's work "Face Lift" placed third in dimensional art for the SmallWorks Art Show 2007 held in September in Oriental, North Carolina. She participates in art shows in Oriental.
Enameling is a wonderful art combining color and form on mixed media - glass on copper.
