A ruffled-up, fat young robin hides in the brush, concealed by the thick foliage and tangled branches, taking shelter from the sun. Feeling content and safe, it watches the world through the spaces in the leaves and branches and feels free in the solitude. The calligraphy is a poem fragment meant to convey the "mood" of the painting, and reads, "... As contented and happy as the journey of a carefree cloud across a summer sky."
