I didn't think I had any "Local Creeps" - while Watford is a fairly large town and there have been people settled here since Saxon times there isn't that much interesting history attached to the place. However, after doing a bit of research, I found stories of 3 local ghosts and this was the most appealing. Cassiobury Park is a large area of public parkland about 15 minutes walk from my house. Cassiobury House was initially built back in the 16th Century by the Sir Charles Morrison who had been given the land by Henry VIII. Lord Arthur Capel married Morrisons granddaughter Elizabeth in 1627 and the estate became property of the Capel family. He sided with Charles Ist during the English Civil War and was made Baron Capel. He eventually surrendered and he was beheaded in 1649. It is said his ghost wanders the grounds of the house (now demolished) that are now Cassiobury Park. I'm not sure he carries his head under his arm - that's artistic license! I went to the park to take some photos and also did some research into mid-17th Century costume. to create the image.
