Hyacinthus was a Spartan youth loved by both Apollo and Zephyrus. While playing discuss with Apollo, Zephyrus, the god of the west wind, jealous of Hyacithnus' preference for Apollo, blew the discuss so it hit Hyacinthus in the head, killing him. Apollo used Hyacinthus' blood to create the hyacinth flower.
