This is a picture of a swan gliding across a lake entitled "Swan Lake". The original is unfortunately sold; however, giclee prints and posters are available for this work at
Materials used: Rembrant pastels
Process: Generally I start with a rough sketch done in vine charcoal, then work from light to dark.
Choice of subject: Well, it was a Canadian goose actually, that kind of transformed itself into a swan as the painting progressed. It caught my eye, on Moosehead Lake - especially how the ripples trailed behind it and the reflection in front of it. I rather thought a soft, almost impressionistic look would best convey the grace and accentuate the subject the best.
