Description

This is a portrait of a mother and child entitled The Coming of Winter. Various sized prints of this work and the original may be found atcommerce site of D. Loren Champlin

Materials:

very traditional - oil on portrait linen,

Process:

the linen is hand stretched and primed with gesso in a very traditional fashion. I always use brushes or the ends of brushes.

information about the subject and why chosen:

nobody in particular actually was used as a model in this particular case. It is something I had kept sketching out over and over and screamed to be painted. .Fall in Maine can have brutally bitter winds especially in October and November when the first snows arrive. My son hates the wind and always wants to be carried and sheltered from it was the root of the inspiration for this piece.
