I don't remember a time in my life that I was not completely submerged in creating something. I have tried and enjoyed various mediums of art including acrylic painting, oil painting, collage assemblage, jewelry making and most recently clay hand-building and sculpting. So, as you can see, what is before you is my journey. I am obsessed with the possibilities of clay and dream each night of something that is worth recreating and redefining in this medium. Many of my ideas are not initial successes, but I still find the process exciting and fulfilling. For every one piece I love, another has been broken, blown up, or tossed. I am basically self-taught and sadly never even considered getting an art degree even though in retrospect I know I would have enjoyed it immensely. I have a law degree which, trust me, was (for me) the antithesis of all things imaginative.
As for training in clay, I have had the opportunity and fortuitous luck to have been able to work with and learn from established artists hand-building techniques, ceramic fundamentals, and firing processes. I have read everything I can get my hands on about clay. In the end, it comes to just doing it over and over; practicing, enjoying, and evolving as an artist. Even though I run my kiln almost every day, I never tire of the anticipation and excitement of what the final outcome will be.
I hope you will enjoy my pieces as much as I have in their conception. Each of my pieces is a one-of-a-kind creation. I hope you discover something about my work that strikes a resonant note.
