I thought about this piece and how I wanted to do it for weeks, who of us has not been embarrased by Grandma's Big Undies flying in the wind, those huge silk panties that you could use as a Wind Sail for your boat, or a cape for your Superman outfit, I remember a neighbor I had at the Coastline in Cali, who would hang up her tidy whities on the line in front of my bay window, and on the day's her back was hurting would ask my husband to take down her undies, WHY, he would ask me, why not you, she was a widow, never could figure that one out, but he would do it, because he was a nice guy, the image of those big panties is still in my head, huge bras, and huge underpants, and the pretty crocheted hankies, she had a dryer, but who could resist the smell of sunshine and fresh florals from Mother Nature herself, I truly enjoyed painting this, and I hope you enjoy the story behind it.
