Hi

My name is Tristam Douglas but my friends call me Tris.

I have a great love for art and music. I always wanted to be a professional Jazz musician but I always felt I was on the cusp of being good rather than actually making it and forfilling my potential. In early 2006 "disaster" struck and I tore a ligament in my right shoulder this made the playing and practise of my music difficult. I moved over to the saxophone from guitar as it was a lot less physically demanding, and that was the way things were going.

Things were going reasonably but saxophone is a very very loud instrument and my opportunities to practice are limited at the best. My wife and one of my very best friends both paint in watercolours and when Michael came over for a "painting holiday" I could not play my sax all evening so I thought that I would have a go myself.

So I decided that I would pick John Coltrane. Two evenings later I had painted my first picture... What was clear that I had a natural ability and down the line I will become a far more accomplished artist than musician so it was time to change careers.

I always approached music visually, and my first series of paintings pay tribute to the great musicians whose art has filled my house and my head for 18 years.
