Sadie is a portrait of my own little dog painted on a 8x10 flat canvas panel. I used the best quality Grumbacher oils to create her. This painting has a lot of personality. I tried to capture the look of Jack Russell terrier (cause I believe that is what she is). She is ready to frame, and would make an excellent decorative item. Winner of the auction will be emailed an EBSQ electronic certificate of authenticity. This painting will be varnished for protection. A little bit about my dog Sadie. She was a rescue that I took in last October. And in her case, she ended up being one lucky dog. I first found out about her after my mother had told me that some guy had brought a little brown and white dog to the house, searching for its owner. Said that he found her crossing the road in the middle of town, near the main light. Where she had come very close to being hit by a Semi. Since he couldn't find the owner, he was going to take her down and turn her over to the police dept. When I first learned about her, I decided to go down and have a look. When I got there the guy was sitting with her outside the station, and the cop on duty had just arrived. I looked at her, and offered to adopt her if her owner never turned up. he told me to take her now if I wanted her. Cause he'd have to fill out a report, and she would end up dead within a few days at animal control. So I took her home. Took her around the neighborhood the next day, and found out that she had been left behind by her owners when they moved (or so the other neighbors said). From what I found out they had moved a week before, and she had been running loose around town since then. When I first got her she had infected teeth, and a skin infection so bad that her hair was falling out. She slept al the time and was not as active as normal terrier would be. A vet visit, and some good flea medication corrected it. Now she is a happy go lucky dog. She still sleeps a lot. My vet says that he figures she is at least six years old. A second vet that gave her a rabies shot during a rabies clinic says she is possibly a purebred Jack Russell then went on to say that 99% of the dogs she saw that day were abandoned pets other people had taken in when their owners moved. :( Her favorite things do is lay in her chair (the one in the painting), do laps around the living room, play with my nephews and her best friend Jasmine. A shih-tzu puppy that my sister owns. I take Sadie with me when I baby sit my nephews. They have a 4 acre mini farm for them to run and play on. Supervised of course! OK. HAHA! That was tl:dr (too long didn't read. lol). But that's my inspiration for this painting. I guess the point would be that if you are going to move please try to take your pets with you. If that's not possible, at least try to find them a new home, or take them to a shelter. I know sometimes those are the most heartbreaking, and may seem like not the best options. It's better then leaving them to fend for themselves, be picked up by animal control, or getting hit by a car. Thousands of pets abandoned like that end up not being as lucky as Sadie was. I am hoping to turn this into a series to help out a local wild cat rescue that I support. Although they may not have dogs, they still have many animals in need. So if this is sucessful, look for more Sadie paintings in the future!
