How long have you been creating?

40 years.I started drawing at age 10.

What, besides your art, brings you creative fulfillment?

Anything involving design, organization or construction is fulfilling to me as a creative process. I also find music to be a satisfying creative avenue. A few years back, I purchased a pipe organ. I have enjoyed installing, maintaining, and playing the organ.

What are your motivations for creating?

When I see interesting images, I find it fascinating to re-create them or re-design them into new images. These exercises, when successfull, provide a sense of having fully explored and captured the essence of the idea.

How do you know when a piece you're working on is done?

Sometimes it is difficult to determine when a drawing is complete. Some drawings have a certain logical synergy. These fit together so well that it is obvious when they are complete. In other cases, a drawing may remain in the design phase for an extended period of time during which I may totaly re-design the drawing concept. There is lots of erasing, manipulating of details and re-drawing. Sometimes I am never quite satisfied, and decide to bring the drawing to a close in order to move on to new works. I have adopted the practice of drawing multiple layers of detail superimposed in order to create interesting contrasts and graphics effects. This can greatly extend the effort as this technique offers almost never ending possiblities of enhancement.

What do you find stimulating right now? How does this influence your creative process?

I have always been interested in studying visual material, architectural drawings, blueprints, photographs of cathedrals, forts, temples, castles, crystalographic symmetry patterns, especialy old engravings of machinery, mills and factories. The work of M C Escher is most inspiring to me. I also am fascinated by the graphic work of Ian Miller. I find much inspiration from classical music such as Mozart's Requiem and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto and organ works.

What brought you to EBSQ?

EBSQ was recomended to me by a friend that is also a graphic artist.

Please share some of your artistic goals for 2008.

In 2008, I plan to try to participate in some local art shows and submit some samples to galleries. I also plan to improve my skills by studying drawing techniques and the work of other artists. I plan to create a dozen or so new drawings this year.

What would you like your fellow EBSQ artists and our collectors to know about you and/or your work?

I have many hobbies and interests and skills, but drawing is the one thing I do that is original, unique and is the ultimate self expression for me. Drawing is the best thing I can do
