Media:  Digital Painting
Dimensions:  18 x 12
Date of Work:  4/07

This is a digital painting created with a wacom tablet and Photoshop. I really got into the fancy background on this one. I love the decorative quality of this piece. I thought it would be fun to combine an indoor wallpaper type of background with this wild bird on a branch. This piece was created by using tons of layers at different opacities. This bird is a Glossy Starling. I chose this bird to play with because I liked his iridescent coloring and felt that the blues and purples would be a lot of fun to work with. My motivation was to create a simple decorative piece that captured both an element of nature ( the bird on a branch) alongside a wallpaper type of background that would not be found in nature. According to Wikepedia: "Starlings have diverse and complex vocalizations, and have been known to imbed sounds from their surroundings into their own calls, including car alarms, and human speech patterns. The birds can recognize particular individuals by their calls, and are currently the subject of research into the evolution of human language."
