An old Dodge truck grill. I used spattered quinacridone burnt orange watercolor to create the effect of decaying metal. I paint a lot of decaying subjects and also do photography of dilapidated buildings. I love the patina that time and decay put on material items. We worship the new, but time and decay put an ineffable character on things that a new glossy surface cannot hope to emulate. The speaking of the passage of time tells a story. When this truck was new, who drove it? And how, when it looks like an antique helmet of a long-dead knight-in-armor, who knows how it got to its final resting place? I'll bet, however, somewhere, some man occasionally thinks fondly of his 1940's era Dodge and how GOOD it ran and how beautiful its black hood in the sun as it hauled the farm produce to market? Watercolor on 140lb paper. SOLD.
