This is a hotel I photographed while I was a student in Paris in the 70's. The early morning misty light attracted me to photograph the building.
Paris is almost too beautiful to photograph. And in some ways, despite the years going by, it is still very much the same. This kind of hotel was not all that different to ones we later stayed in 30 years later. And Paris still, to me, looks the best in black and white. I wish I could have captured the feeling of being a student, in Paris, with a tattered pair of sandals run to bits with days of sightseeing. I was too bemused by Paris to take more than this photo, but it really for me captures the narrow streets and the old buildings with a patina of agelessness.
I digitized my black and white print to adjust the effects. The original was done with a Pentax K 35mm camera and a 1.2 Pentax lens, on Ilford PanX black and white film, developed in Panadol. Printed on Ilford portrait matte paper, scanned in and digitized.
