Media:  black and white film/digital
Dimensions:  8x10 inches
Date of Work:  1-2007

This is a photo of Zermatt in March in a light snow. Despite the feeling of being back in the 1800's, this was taken in 1995 and then redigitized from the original 6x7 format photograph. Zermatt is famous for the Matterhorn; but it is also a timeless place, and this photo aims to show how a modern city in Switzerland can sport a jet-set attitude and yet in some places look as if time stood still. No gasoline or diesel cars are allowed in Zermatt, only electric vehicles, The air is crystal clear and the smell is sweet. When you go below and sniff the air, the tang of petrol is evident, something we are unaware of in daily life. I hope this photo captures some of the quality of Zermatt that makes it a special city. Taken with a Fuji GW670 on Ilford black & white film, developed in Panadol, printed on Ilford paper, then digitally scanned.
