I did this little painting to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Bright happy pink lips, done in Holbein Opera watercolor with Maimeri Rosso Lake and skin tones in raw sienna, cadmium red, ultramarine and burnt umber. Whites were carefully masked to give that wonderful shine. Part of the inspiration to do lips with lipgloss comes from the fact that women who start to put on makeup and (even with hairloss) take pride in their looks are showing bravery and that they are on the way to recovery. I imagined a woman who was on her way back to health, smiling with freshly-made up lips and a positive attitude. 100 percent of the proceeds from the Ebay auction of this painting are going to Susan B Komen foundation.
