This artwork was created for the Lobelia, fotm show. I thought the most beautiful thing about Lobelia is how striking the blue is - enmass, although portrayed that way makes it difficult to create a central point of interest. I wanted to add a butterfly for the sake of color contrast and giving the painting a main focus point. I enjoyed painting this so much I decided to do a series of butterfly paintings on 11 x 14 size canvas so they could be displayed in a grouping of 2 or 3.
