This is a new series of artwork that I have created focusing on damaged tintypes from the late 1800's. The original tintypes have started a jewelry pendant series...as these are the prints that have evolved. I truly have enjoyed this new series...as the majority of the images take on quite a surreal appearance. This piece is entitled "Tin Mammy." This print is printed on archival papers with lighfast inks...and then also some hand-manipulation. This piece is on stretched canvas...which the canvas itself becomes a 'poor man's canvas' painted with ONLY things that you can find in a grocery store!!! I thought this piece was quite suitable for 'Sideshow' as she is a type that would be behind the scenes...the woman selling candied apples with not a smile...and with the process of using things to create pigments and textures with strictly grocery store items (edible as well as spices) gives this piece a kitsch carnival surrealness.
