Thank you for giving me this opportunity to
introduce myself to you.
I started drawing as a young child and have been
painting for over 40 years. I loved to draw and loved the special attention
being able to draw gave me.. My family vacationed in Northern Wisconsin every
year and I spent my time sketching and painting the lakes, trees and wildlife in
watercolor.
As a young mom, I painted with my children. I would
set my work up on the dining room table and set them up around me. They would
paint, and I would paint. One of my children has artistic talent (she is a
teacher now). Watercolor is done with several layers of wash. Sometimes I
would put down a layer…do some house work and then put down another layer as I
rushed through the dining room. During that time, I started doing portraits of
my own children and then of my friends children. I showed and sold my work
through small local shops, art and craft fairs, word of mouth, and party plan.
My work has been juried into many regional arts and crafts shows.
I worked for 10 years in the graphic arts industry
before everything was done with computers. We used pen and ink, light tables
and dark rooms. We separated colors for printing using film. It was a great
learning experience and is one of the reasons I love using ink detail today!
I have a bachelors degree in psychology from Upper
Iowa University and have worked with children with a mental health diagnosis
both as a foster parent and as a mentor. I am particularly interested in
expressive arts therapy, using art as a
communication process, and how focusing helps limit pain...
I have studied art at The University of Wisconsin,
Rock County and have attended several day long seminars with many nationally
known artists. I also took a series of classes with Wayne Gunness, a well know
local watercolor artist whom I give credit for my traditional transparent
watercolor style of painting.
I discovered folk art and country decorating while
working in a country furniture store. This new love added a new dimension and
direction to my work. I love to create art that will be used by people both
functionally and as part of their decorating.
I have been painting and selling my art for
over thirty years, the last six has included online sales! Watercolor is
my first love, but I also enjoy acrylic, pastel and I am playing with oils and sculpty mediums
I have, over the years, shown and sold my work in small shops and galleries in
Wisconsin, in juried art fairs and in art shows though the University
system.
I have taught both adults and children in
my own studio and through the YWCA. My degree is in psychology, I enjoyed
using my art as I worked with children with special needs......
I want to use my art as a healing
process for myself and others....visit my Healing Art page!
I believe that creating is a natural urge and God
given. Creating art is something that all children do, and then as they grow
