In a 4000yr old burial chamber in Ireland this symbol is carved in a rock. It is supposed that the three spirals represent the ancient burial ground it is in and two others nearby with the River Boyne running to the east. I visited this tomb last year 2005 and the spirits of those strong visionary people really affected me as the tour guide evoked their time with her stories. It was at time when Ireland was covered in forests of which a small percentage remain. The stone to build this tomb was brought from a place many miles to the north of Newgrange and a path had to be created through the forest to move the giant stones to this place. It took at least two generations to built it and on the winter solstice the sun floods the inner chamber so it feels like a most sacred and magical place to be.
