How long have you been creating?
I've been drawing and making little sculptural structures as long as I can remember. I began making jewelry 18 years ago because I needed the perfect pair of earrings for a friend but I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I just went ahead and made them myself!

What is your media of choice?
For jewelry I tend to use items that are commonly found within our culture, but I'll use anything that inspires ideas. World coins are perhaps the most interesting to work with because I always learn something while scrounging them up and researching their history. I also use zippers, guitar picks, dice, and whatever is routinely produced, easily accessible, and of lasting quality.
When drawing I prefer black ink on white paper - I highly recommend Faber Castell PITT artist pens to those with a similar preference.

What are you motivations for creating?
To relax, to evolve, and to share... The creative process allows us to understand ourselves and to communicate with our fellow humans in an intimate, non-verbal way. For me it's very rewarding not only to create, but to admire and discuss any and all forms of art.

What other artists or movements inform your work?
Over the years I've been inspired by M.C. Escher, Isamu Noguchi, Eugene von Bruenchenhein, Stanislav Szukalski, Sarah Moon, Issey Miyake, Do-Ho Suh, Hannes Bok, Varvara Stepanova, Hector Guimard, Theo van Doesburg, Mary Lee Hu, and N.J. Horner. I'm also inspired by my wife, my child, and my parents who are all very creative.
I'm extremely fascinated by the work of "primitive" cultures throughout history because it offers such a clear glimpse into the nature of humanity. In many ways I feel that I'm simply a contemporary cave artist and talisman maker so their work has a feeling of familiarity and has offered comfort and wisdom throughout my life.

What do you find visually stimulating right now?
I watch a lot of music video compilations and concerts because they're such a compact form of audio/visual expression. The Director's Label Series is wonderful and I love Bjork's "Vespertine live at the Royal Opera House" as it's calm, interesting, and beautiful.

What's the last book you read?
"Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman" by Haruki Murakami and "The Wind's Twelve Quarters" by Ursula K. Le Guin
Any artistic goals for 2007?
To draw more.
Ink drawing has always been my most lucid form of creative expression and I'm at my most relaxed when I draw, but it also stimulates my mind and energizes me.

What would you like your fellow EBSQ artists and our collectors to know about you and/or your work?
My goal is to create work that is endowed with a natural rhythm and purity of form - it's a joy to create and I truly hope you enjoy it as well!
