This piece was painted shortly after the birth of my first daughter with the intention of conveying a purity and innocence I had never experienced before. The thorny roses that encircle the scene are perhaps symbolic of a natural protectiveness of such a defensless being.
This work was a fortunate "accident". The incredible texture and depth was created by applying a water based urethane over the hide glue (crackle medium). The result was that extra layers of the actual paint itself separated, cracked, or floated over upon itself. The rose petals actually curl out!! Enjoy!
