Lovers Leap is inspired by my childhood memories of the coast of Maine. There a legend was told of lost love. Of how a wife, whose seaferring husband was lost at sea, flung herself off the cliffs into the ocean and regained her true form, that of a mermaid or selkie.
Here she stands poised at the edge of the cliffs, gazing off to the far ends of the horizon. It is her last moment of hopeful thought before she realizes what she must do to save her love.
A large 2 foot by 4 foot acrylic painting on panel. I created this work during 2005. The original painting of "Lovers Leap" , as well as prints, are available for purchase. Please contact me for information.
