In 1999 I had an opportunity to visit the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, Arizona. There was an amazing cactus garden. This image was done from a photo taken at the arboretum. I was particularly drawn to the pattern and deep shadows created by the buds and blooms on the surface of the cactus pad.
