ARTIST'S STATEMENT
For me, each artwork is a journey into the realm of my imagination. A realm where my fascination with nature, science and the organic merge with my subconscious. My work is intuitive, and I often start with only a vague notion or feeling about what will emerge on the paper. As I delve deeper into my working process, a primordial spirit takes over and orbs, dots, pods, geometric shapes, droplets and other familiar elements bubble up.
BIOGRAPHY
When I was eleven, I gave up gymnastics for art. My mom had taken a how-to-draw-animals book out of the library for me. When she saw that I was actually able to capture the likeness of one of the images—in this case a dog—she offered to send me for art lessons. These lessons opened a whole new world for me, and were the starting point of my future career and love of art and art making.
I went on to study at the Rhode Island School of Design, graduating with a BFA in graphic design in 1988. Making my art has always been a primary focus in my life, and at various times I have concentrated on ceramics and printmaking. Currently my focus is works on paper with a strong emphasis on colored pencil drawings. I also regularly work with watercolor, collage and mixed media.
