Media:  Mixed Media on gallery wrapped canvas
Dimensions:  36 x 24
Date of Work:  2009

This piece was created for a local studio in town where I sell. They sold my "Organica" piece this past weekend and I needed to create another of the same size to put in it's place. Before I started I had no clue what I was going to do. I had the song by a-ha in my head named "Dragonfly" and started sketching. As I was sketching the second song that came on my iPod was "Dragonfly". I knew I was headed in the right direction. This is what came out of that session. It has many layers, the first being black gesso which I love to use. Next is a ripped up costume sewing pattern from the 80's then layers of paint, pearl x and more. I've even included some of the lyrics on the canvas. The dragonfly was made with Claudine Hellmuth's sticky back canvas! The lyrics used: "I will never let you down, I will always be around ... In the time we have left, we'll raise eyes to the sky ... don't ask how, don't ask why, just fly dragonfly, just fly dragonfly."
