Capturing the details of the strength and beauty of a horse in miniature is no easy task. I love the muscular structure of their faces in particular and the way the light plays across them. This drawing took me over 5 hours to complete.

A few years ago, one of my favorite stops on my evening walks was to visit a nearby farm. The horses would see me and come running since they knew I carried apples for them to chomp on. When they were running towards me I would close my eyes and listen to the sound of their hooves thundering on the dirt. There is no sound like it and it takes my breath away just thinking about it.

This was created on medium weight illustration board using a Rapidograph technical pen and india ink. All materials are of professional quality for brilliance and longevity.

*This is a drawing based on a photo taken by Cheryl Rankin of her horse, Lad.*

Gerber Collection in Fresno, CA.
